Grandparent's Play Day

Allie and James came down yesterday (Saturday) to go to the temple so Jane and I watched the kids. We took them to a place nearby called "Little Monkey Business", that is a big indoor play area for kids under the age of 7, and features a coffee bar for the moms to hang out so the kids can play. The Thornbrue kids had a blast and we thought we'd share the pics.

Ron Williams' Family Picture from Christmas

I had a fun conversation with Ron Williams today catching up with family stuff, and he sent me this picture. He has three daughters (married) and two boys (one married and one on a mission). Can you tell which is his son from the family resemblance?

So this past Saturday I went to see the Killers at the University of Denver in the Magness Area. It was pretty cool. I went with a couple of friends, unfortunely our seats were horrible (two rows from the back) so I snuck down to much closer to the floor, where the view was much more amazing. Despite the name, the Killers are not heavy metal, or anything like it. The Lights were pretty cool. Imagine a jumbo tron made of christmas lights, and thats what the back droup was. It was pretty cool.

The Setlist:

Spaceman (Day & Age)
Losing Touch (Day & Age)
For Reasons Unknown (Sam's Town)

Somebody Told Me (Hot Fuss)

Smile Like You Mean It (Hot Fuss)
This Is Your Life (Day & Age)
Joy Ride (Day & Age)

I Can't Stay (Day & Age)
Bling - Confessions of a King (Sam's Town)
The World We Live In (Day & Age)

Neon Tiger (Day & Age)
Human (Day & Age)

Sam's Town - Acoustic Piano Version (Sam's Town)
Read My Mind (Sam's Town)
Mr. Brightside (Hot Fuss)
All These Things That I Have Done (Hot Fuss)

~ Encores ~

Dustland Fairytale (Day & Age)
Jenny Was a Friend of Mine (Hot Fuss)
When You Were Young (Sam's Town)

Ski Fun

If you have been following Jarom's blog (see the link on the right side of this page), you have learned that we're doing a lot of skiing this winter. The justification is (1) there isn't a lot to do in the winter in Colorado unless you are doing some kind of winter sport, (2) its great quality family (father/son/brother) time and (3) its a really fun way to get a good workout. So we'll be sharing a lot of pictures over the winter as we get better. Seth is easy to find on the slopes with his green helmet and pants, and Jarom with his tweed coat and red helmet. I am more conservative with a red/black jacket and black helmet.

Kevin Guthrie MTC Pictures

Recently my work territory was expanded to include Utah, so on January 6th I travelled to Utah for the week to introduce myself to the schools along the Wasatch Front. After booking the trip I learned I would be visiting BYU the day that Kevin Guthrie (Jason's son) entered the MTC, so I was fortunate enough to take a lunch-time break and go with Jason, Leslie and Kevin for the big event. Jason and Leslie were understandably a bit nervous, so I took most of the pictures. I post them here for easy access. The process hasn't changed noticeably since Jarom went on his mission back in 1999, and it will be nice having another family member in the mission field.

Holiday Wrap Up

I just thought I'd share a selection of pictures from all of our holiday activities. Enjoy!

Denver Zoo Holiday Lights

One of the ways that the Denver Zoo makes money during the winter is to put up all kinds of Christmas lights and open up at night during the Holidays. Our real estate agent gave us free tickets for the past couple of years, but given the state of the housing market we understand why they didn't give them out this year. With Grandma Judy in town, we decided to take her anyway. As always, it was a chilly night, but it was nice to get out of the house and walk around. Jarom, Melissa and Bryson went with us.

Many of the light displays are animated

Many of the animals are kept indoors during the winter. The smell is one of the more memorable parts of the evening

The types of animals depicted in the lights correspond to the different sections of the park.
